How many physio visits does ICBC cover at the start?

In BC, ICBC’s early recovery benefits typically include 25 pre-approved physiotherapy treatments in the first 12 weeks after the crash. You don’t need ICBC “special approval” to begin care during that early window—your physiotherapy clinic can start assessment and treatment right away while your claim is being processed.

What “pre-approved” usually covers:
The pre-approved package typically includes an assessment, hands-on therapy, supervised exercise, and a short home exercise program. Early treatment focuses on pain control, restoring movement, and preventing secondary weakness so you can get back to work and daily activities sooner.

What happens when you come in

We don’t rush the first visit. Your assessment typically lasts about 45–60 minutes and includes:

  • Which movements trigger pain (for example: turning your head, bending forward, lifting the arm)

  • What’s stiff versus what’s weak—range-of-motion and strength testing

  • What activities are limited (sleeping, driving, lifting at work) so we can set meaningful goals

After assessment, we’ll explain findings, set short-term goals, and agree on a care plan. Typical early treatment mixes hands-on therapy, supervised exercises, and a home exercise program. Many patients start with 2–3 sessions per week and move to a tapering program as pain and movement improve. If additional treatments are required, your physiotherapist will guide the next steps for the ICBC review and document the progress.

If you’re coming in for an appointment, bring your claim number and PHN. If you don’t have those yet, call our staff before your visit, and we’ll advise you on what to do. Need to reschedule? Contact the clinic by phone or online booking—we’ll find a time that fits your work and family schedule.

Direct billing (so you’re not paying and chasing receipts)

Where eligible, our clinic offers direct billing to ICBC. We submit invoices using your claim information so you don’t have to pay up front or keep receipts.

If direct billing isn’t available for your file, we’ll explain payment options, provide itemized receipts you can submit to ICBC or your extended health insurer, and help you through the claims process.

What we provide for ICBC reviews:

Clear progress notes, a documented treatment plan, and regular milestones showing results. If ICBC requests additional documentation, our physiotherapists prepare the necessary reports to support requests for more treatments or rehabilitation programs.

If you need more than the first 12 weeks

Sometimes recovery takes longer. If you’re still experiencing pain or limited movement after the early window, your physiotherapist can recommend further treatments and submit supporting documentation to ICBC for consideration. Timelines vary, but we’ll explain the usual steps and expected wait so you know what to expect.

We also work with other payers, including extended health insurers and WorkSafeBC when applicable. Ask our staff if you’re unsure which billing route applies to your situation. Common questions we answer at your first appointment include the billing process, what documentation ICBC needs, and how many treatments are likely.
